Going Home

Our goal is to manage your hospital stay carefully so that you can return home as soon as possible.  Patients whose admissions have been booked in advance will usually know their expected day of discharge. Please arrange for clothes and transportation to be available on that morning.  Expected discharge time is before 11:00 a.m. for inpatient units.

For patients admitted on an urgent basis, planning for discharge begins almost immediately. They, too, must advise their families when their doctor indicates that they will be able to leave the hospital and arrangements should be made to pick up the patient prior to 11:00 a.m.  If you are having difficulties arranging transportation home, please advise a member of your health care team.  We can help you with your arrangements.  Please note that transportation costs are the responsibility of the patient and/or family.

Some patients will require further care at home after discharge from the hospital. Please be sure to discuss your needs with a member of your health care team. New parents - don't forget an infant car seat is required by law. Make sure your new baby's first drive home is a safe one!
